New
set of tires. The tires I had were pretty good, but I wasn't sure
they'd make the whole distance. Since time is a quantity in short supply
while doing the ride, I decided to place new tires on. After the trip
& these wear out, I'll remount my 'decent, but not new' tires.
Replace all engine fluids with fresh ones.
This
one took a little while, but I believe is worth it...go around the bike
with your tool kit and check the tightness of every nut & bolt you
come across. This gives you peace of mind about the bike and also
validates your tool kit. Harley Davidson, in its infinite wisdom, has
chosen standard hex-head mixed with Allen-head, with a healthy bit of
torx-head to make it interesting.
Comfort
items. I never caved in to buying a minivan despite having 4 kids. I
have, however, caved on a cup holder on the bike. It's coming off the
day after we get home. Once your bike has a radio, you start down the
slippery slope of motorcycle add-ons...inching closer & closer to an
automobile, I guess. I added a GPS mount, too.
